How Does It Work?
At Anomaly we use many different types of camera rigs depending on the type of job. We use anywhere between 6 - 14 cameras, arranged in a spherical array to capture every possible angle. We then “stitch” these angles together using a combination of automated and manual techniques to create a 360 degree video. This is then edited, colour graded and outputted in a similar way to standard video content. Where possible, we incorporate bilinear sound into our work, which only adds to the users immersion in the worlds we create. This means that when the viewer turns their head, the vision doesn’t just change, but the sound does as well, as if they were really there.
Why is it Good for Me?
360 video is a breathtaking new tool for telling stories and conveying messages. New virtual reality technology means that viewers can be totally immersed in their viewing experience, and feel exactly what a journey looks like, sounds like and feels like. Restrictions on experiences are now a thing of the past. The elderly can ride in a Formula 1 car, those scared of heights can jump out of an plane, and people can tour foreign locales without the hefty price tag. It can be an awesome way to showcase events, train staff and personnel, and be transported to other places without needing to take a single step.
